If you’ve heard of the Gumball 3000, you’ll know it’s a petrol-heads heaven, an annual British motor rally spanning across 3000 miles of the world. This year the Gumball rally began in Miami’s South Beach, embarking on a journey consisting of amazing cities, cultural contrasts and endless partying to finally reach the ultimate end destination of Ibiza!
The Gumball 3000 really is a once in a lifetime dream for many petrol-heads and millionaires, as you may need to be one to afford the £40,000 entry fee! Of course with that you get a chance to be one of 50 participants who’ll be lucky enough to be living and breathing the top beaches, cities, planes, trains and boats over the next week or so. Living the lifestyle across the Gumball with F1 hospitality, all you need to do is turn the key, drive and enjoy!
As I’m from a family who love their cars highly modified and on a race track, this was definitely one I have had circled on the calendar since the date was announced they would be entering London. So with that, Regent Street was closed for the day as the motor memorabilia all rolled out. The chance to see cars from seeing “Optimus Prime” (if you’ve ever watched any of the Transformers films, you’ll know who I mean) to seeing some of London’s Motor museum special’s including James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5.
With Skating to watch and concerts running, you’ll find plenty to do throughout the day. With the Gumball being hosted on Regent Street, many retailers were offering great discounts, which led us to Hamley’s toy store and Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum. Roll on 6pm, a crowd of 10,000 people are lining the streets, all anxiously waiting for the first glimpse of the cars. Living a little “Gumball” lifestyle of ourselves we ended taking ourselves to the bar for a few drinks and finished just in time for the cars to arrive at sunset.
For us, participating in the Gumball 3000 may be something of a distant dream, but spectating was more than enough for the time being 😉
